Overclocking Champion - Shropshire Star, April 09

06-04-2009

Philip at full speed - and even more…
Shropshire cannot boast many British champions - and Philip Brown of Shrewsbury is one of the more unusual ones!
Philip, aged 21, is the UK Overclocking Champion, which as any ‘serious computer geek’ knows is the competitive skill of tweaking and experimenting with identical sets of parts to make computer hardware perform faster than it was originally designed to do.

Hosted by hardware components manufacturer Gigabyte Ltd, the UK competition was held recently in Milton Keynes, with each competitor being given a set of identical standard equipment, consisting of power supply, processor, motherboard, graphics card and RAM.

In a fiercely fought final contest, Philip proved fastest and beat the best in the country - by a single point - to claim the title.
Philip works as a technical sales advisor for Midland Computers, based on Halesfield in Telford, and will now fly out to the world championships, which are being held in Prague later this month.

Philip said: “I am honoured to be meeting the European champions who are record breaking computers wizards and even more excited at the thought of pitting my skills against the best in the world.”

Philip is pictured working on his benching test-bed in Telford, in preparation for the next challenge.
