Midland Remote Backup software unobtrusively encrypts, compresses and then sends your important data via the Internet to one of our backup storage servers; the next day you receive an e-mail confirmin g that your files are securely stored.

Data Storage Quantity

The amount of data storage you require will ultimately dictate the cost of your solution. Cost is calculated per Gigabyte that the data takes up on your server with a 10% variance built in.

Should you exceed the agreed data storage capacity (+10%) you will be given the opportunity to trim the data on your server before we increase the total data storage capacity of your solution.

We compress the data that you store, giving you room for data growth during the contract period.

Internet Connection

Your Internet upload speed will determine the amount of data that can be replicated outside of your working day, but for most situations a normal ADSL connection is more than suitable.

This will be tested during the setup to confirm that you have a suitable bandwidth to enable a safe and reliable backup solution.

Backup 500GB in One Night

Our software backup technologies enable backup of a large volume of data to be completed in a very short period of time. The initial seed feature allows staging of the data to a local hard drive, whic h is then taken physically to our backup servers. With our incremental technology, the original file is required to be backed up once only, i.e. in the first backup job. Subsequently, only the changes within the file made since the previous backup are necessary to be uploaded.

For example, for a file that is as large as 500GB, we can simply seed the full backup to a removable local hard drive and then deliver the data in the removable hard drive to the backup server. Since only the changes made within the 500GB file (normally less than 1%, i.e. 5GB of the original file size) are required to be backed up again, this amount of data can be backed up easily to the server via the Internet in one night. As a result, instead of having to back up 500GB every day, you just need to back up 5GB every day to keep the file up-to-date on the backup server.

Management

Every Remote Backup Solution is a fully managed service with daily reports e-mailed to both you and to our first line support engineers to ensure faultless operation. The reports inform you of the current status of your backup and the quantity of data stored.

Setup

After you have supplied us with a list of directories or files on your server that you would like to be replicated we can proceed with configuring the software.

We do not normally need to visit your premises to set up the Remote Backup Solution if you have the ability to access your servers remotely. Our engineers can configure the software and router appliances from our offices.

If you have a large amount of data to transfer we may visit your premises to copy your data to a hard disk drive and transport it to our server for the initial replication. This will significantly decrease the time taken to ensure a fully working solution.

When you need to recover deleted files or folders - up to 4 recovery incidents are included in your cost and these can be used to recover your data as needed. Providing your system is running and has a working Internet connection, this process can be carried out remotely almost immediately and is included as part of your solution.**

**Full data restoration to your Server / PC due to a complete system failure or a disaster recovery situation is not part of this service and is covered under our business continuity product.

Backup Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express

Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express are the two most popular e-mail readers used by businesses and home users. Equipped with the capability for storing large amounts of data efficiently, Outlook and Outlook Express are now being used by many users to store large amount of important data in addition to being merely a communication tool. However, backing up data stored in these two e-mail readers is a headache to most users, as few users know where to find the related files storing the personal information (e.g. ".pst", ".dbx") and address book (".wab") used by these e-mail readers to back up.
